We’re excited to launch a composting system that transforms waste into something wonderful! Our goal is to create rich, natural fertilizer from food scraps and chicken poop to support sustainability and teach our community how small actions can make a big difference.
We’re in the process of setting up a composting system using two tumblers to manage materials separately:
Food Scraps: Approved vegetable and fruit scraps from the chickens.
Chicken Poop: Mixed with sand and coffee grounds from the coop.
Once active, this compost will nourish our flower gardens and enhance the soil around campus, creating beautiful spaces for everyone to enjoy.
Reduces Waste: Keeps food scraps and chicken poop out of landfills, reducing harmful greenhouse gases like methane.
Improves Soil: Adds nutrients and organic matter, creating healthier, more productive soil for our gardens.
Supports Sustainability: Teaches students and families how to repurpose waste and care for the environment.
Creates Learning Opportunities: Students will see firsthand how composting works and why it’s important for the planet.
As we finalize the composting setup, we’ll share more details on how it will work and ways you can get involved. Stay tuned for updates about volunteer opportunities and the launch of our composting program!
